Server Consolidation & Virtualization
Enforce Power Policy
The rapid adoption of virtualization validates the technology's significance to IT. Most organizations realize there is value in virtualizing as much of their environment as possible, but many struggle to identify the best candidates for virtualization. Configuresoft provides decision support for organizations looking to minimize the amount of physical servers in their environment through server consolidation and virtualization. Configuresoft's Green IT solution provides unparalleled visibility across the enterprise for disk space, physical memory and processor utilization to show which machines are likely candidates for consolidation and virtualization. Detailed consolidation reports allow you to understand duplicate machine efforts that can be shared or virtualized, which servers can be decommissioned after deploying virtualization technology, and visibility to volume servers that consistently drain data center power resources. Additionally, with Configuresoft's proven continuous compliance approach, virtualized hosts and guests remain in a continuous state of compliance. Configuresoft's out-of-the-box toolkits provide authoritative guidance that your security posture not only complies with vendor-specific hardening guidelines, but also with relevant regulatory mandates affecting your organization.
» Features
- Detailed summary reports on processor usage, disk space and memory utilization displaying which servers are over the specified threshold, where to consolidate and trending reports
- Out-of-the-box templates that address VMware Best Practices, OS Best Practices as a guest, VMWare ESX Server v3.x Benchmark, DISA STIGS, regulatory mandates and security guidelines for both active and dormant guests
- Dashboard reporting to easily identify systems in your environment that are candidates for consolidation with VMware
» Benefits
- Dramatically reduce data center energy and cooling costs through virtualization
- Proven approach ensures that hosts and guests remain in a continuous state of compliance
- Optimize data center by reducing power consumption to allow for future growth
Cold Standby for Disaster Recovery
Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans require IT to have a standby environment. Typically, mission critical applications that need to be brought online within minutes of an incident are housed in a hot standby environment. However, many less critical applications do not require a hot standby and can be brought online with less urgency. The advantages of having a cold standby in place over a hot standby is the significant reduction of power consumption and associated energy cost savings since these servers are powered down. However, IT is often reluctant to use cold standby because of potential configuration drift between the primary environment and the standby environment. Configuresoft's Green IT solution captures configuration information of the cold standby site in addition to detailed change log for the primary environment. In the event of configuration drift between the primary and cold standby site, IT can quickly bring the standby site up and remediate the configuration drift. By turning a hot standby into a cold standby, organizations can reduce their overall energy consumption and costs while still meeting their BC/DR goals.
» Features
- Centralized visibility of detailed configuration of servers in primary and standby environments
- Detailed change log as changes happen in primary environment
- Right mouse click remediation to fix configuration drift
» Benefits
- Reduce power consumption and maintain a sustainable Disaster Recovery plan
- Fix configuration drift between primary and standby environments
- Ensure successful business continuity as per your BC/DR plans
